Talen Energy Donates $50,000 to Berwick Storm Relief Efforts
Berwick, Pa. (August 23, 2024) Talen Energy recently donated $50,000 to the Berwick Area United Way in support of the community and residents who were impacted by a severe storm on June 26.
The storm caused widespread damage to homes and business and left thousands without power for days. First responder units throughout the region and many non-profit organizations were called upon to assist those in need.
Immediately after the storm, the Berwick Area United Way and the Community Giving Foundation worked together to assess need and to find the resources to help. Within two days of the storm, Talen Energy responded with their donation. The funds were used to help to defray the cost of recovery efforts including repairs, food, housing, and other services directed through non-profit agencies and local fire departments.
“Talen is committed to being a good neighbor and when this massive storm hit, we moved quickly to offer our support,” said Chief Nuclear Officer Brad Berryman. “We appreciate the Community Giving Foundation and United Way’s efforts to quickly direct support to where it was most needed as our community recovered.”
Based on the completed needs assessment, Ayrin Shortlidge, Community Impact Coordinator for the Berwick Area United Way, said that funding was provided to five non-profit agencies and 17 fire departments.
“We are grateful to Talen for their continued support of the community,” said Shortlidge. “Talen’s Susquehanna nuclear plant is always willing to help in times of need. When the storm happened, they immediately stepped up and through their support, we’ve been able to provide families and non-profits with the assistance they needed,” Shortlidge continued.
