Susquehanna Steam Electric Station Raises over $1 Million for Berwick Area United Way

Annual golf tournament exceeded $1 million raised since its inception; over $87,000 raised this year.

Berwick, Pa. (September 15, 2023) – Susquehanna Steam Electric Station (Susquehanna) announced today that it has donated over $1,000,000 to the Berwick Area United Way through its annual Susquehanna/United Way Charity Golf Tournament. The $1,000,000 donation was cumulatively raised over the past 13 years through the event.

The milestone was reached during this year’s tournament held September 8th at Berwick Golf Club. The 13th annual event was attended by over 140 golfers and raised over $87,000. In total, the golf tournament has raised $1,065,536 for the organization. These funds are in addition to those raised through Susquehanna’s annual United Way employee giving campaign and Sporting Clays tournament.

“Susquehanna Station is committed to supporting the community in which we operate and proud to contribute to the Berwick Area United Way. Our employees and vendors make generous contributions each year through various fundraising events and our annual employee giving campaign to help fund vital initiatives led by the United Way and its participating agencies,” said Susquehanna Chief Nuclear Officer Brad Berryman. “Team Susquehanna is grateful to all of the volunteers and committee members for their support of our annual golf tournament, especially Kip McCabe, senior project manager, who again served as golf tournament Chairperson. Our thanks also extend to our vendor partners for their participation and generous support,” Berryman continued.

“Susquehanna’s support of the community this year and over the past 13 years has been incredible,” said Bill Jones, United Way President and CEO. “This generosity means that more children, families, and others in need, will have access to services that will improve lives and strengthen the Berwick community. Reaching over $1,000,000 raised is an amazing accomplishment and we are so grateful for their partnership.”

About Susquehanna
Susquehanna, located about seven miles north of Berwick, Pennsylvania, is owned jointly by Susquehanna Nuclear LLC and Allegheny Electric Cooperative Inc. and is operated by Susquehanna Nuclear. Its two units generate approximately 2.5 gigawatts of carbon-free electricity, enough to power approximately two million homes. For information visit www.susquehannanuclear.com.

Susquehanna is one of Talen Energy’s generating affiliates. Talen Energy owns and operates approximately 12.4 gigawatts of high-quality power infrastructure in the United States. It produces and sells electricity, capacity, and ancillary services into wholesale power markets in the United States primarily in PJM, ERCOT and WECC, with its generation fleet principally located in the Mid-Atlantic, Texas and Montana. While the majority of our power is already generated at zero-carbon nuclear and lower-carbon gas-fired facilities, we are reducing the carbon profile of our wholly-owned coal fleet through conversion to lower-carbon fuels. In addition, we are developing a hyperscale data center campus adjacent to our Susquehanna nuclear plant that will utilize the carbon-free energy that Susquehanna generates. Talen is headquartered in Houston, Texas. For more information, visit www.talenenergy.com
